About Us

Here at Bridges Nursery we have an Area Manager, Susan Cawthorne, who has a major input into our setting here at Bridges Nursery. Susan has over 20 years of experience in childcare. She is qualified as an Early Years professional and holds a degree in Children’s Learning in Families, Schools and Beyond. We also have a senior Management Team, Deborah Dolman and Louise Firth, both of whom are qualified in childcare and have over 20 years of experience with Bridges Nursery. Our team of staff are all professional childcare workers with a vast amount of experience. Many have worked within our nursery for many years and are proud of the relationships they have built with the parents and carers.

Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) is not a qualification, but a status that recognises excellence in Early Years Practice. EYPS is awarded to those who successfully demonstrate they have met a set of national graduate-level standards associated with working with children from birth to Five years old.

Early Years professionals are the key in raising the quality of the early years provision, so we are delighted that this has been acheived. This professional development of our team can only enhance the quality of our nursery and the care and education your child receives.

We have 5 staff members who have recenly completed a 'Foundation Degree in Education and Care' and one staff member who had also completed a Foundation Degree in Childrens Play'. These staff now hold a BA Hons in Education and Curriculum Studies' and a 'BA Hons in Children and Yound People'.

We exceed the minimum OFSTED requirements and have two Degree and Teacher qualified personnel working within the nursery.

More About Us

The Bridges Nursery and Out of School Club is one of four privately owned childcare provisions for children aged from birth to 11 years old. Registered from 1996, we operate from a former school building in the centre of Gateshead, near to local facilities and public transport. The nursery is open each weekday from 7.30am til 6pm. The setting is on the Early Years Register and the voluntary and compulsory parts of the Childcare Register. 150 children may attend the nursery at any one time including 40 that are able to attend the out of school club. The children are accommodated in nine rooms spread over two floors which consist of 6 Class Rooms, 2 Dining Rooms and 1 Sleep Room. Two of our class rooms aslo have free flow access to two fully enclosed areas for outdoor play. The children are free to choose indoor or outdoor play areas and are always fully supervised. A good surrounding area provides ample opportunities for trips to local parks and amenities to encourage development of children’s knowledge and understanding of the world.

The Bridges Nursery and Out of School Club currently employ over 35 staff. All staff hold appropriate child care qualifications and work directly with the children. The nursery supports children who are learning English as an additional language. We are a member of the National Day Nursery Association and were awarded the 'Quality Assured' accreditation in 2007.

We offer a flexible service and are happy to accomodate parents with changing shift patterns.

We provide a breakfast club and afterschool club where you child would be offered breakfast/afternoon snack with a drop off or collection at School. We also provide a school nursery wrap around service offering collection or drop off at a School Nursery throughout the day, with a morning or afternoon session in our Nursery.
